The world of needlepoint has a crazy calendar. Needlepoint must be stitched far ahead of time. Christmas decorations are still up and the Easter finishing deadline is looming! I just have time to stitch up a needlepoint Kiss. Here is my thread pull for K08 Candy Kiss. It's on #14 canvas. All Kisses are now on #14 and #18 mesh. I'll keep you posted!

I used Arctic Rays on the polar bear body for X28 Present Polar Bear. Rainbow Gallery calls Arctic Rays a " Wispy Fringe". This is a great description. Arctic Rays has a lot of texture, is bright white and has a shimmer. I'm always looking for different whites for my holiday stitching. Arctic Rays is the perfect addition!

I'm using Neon Rays Plus NP300 on the white lines of K12 Boo. It's a pretty, sparkly white. Then it really does glow in the dark! Robin King compared many Glow in the Dark Threads. Check out her blog for a great comparison. Her pictures are better too!

Very Velvet and Petit Very Velvet are fabulous specialty threads. It stitches up matte and smooth. Adding a completely different texture from wool or silk. It comes in many colors and Rainbow Gallery has now add shaded versions of Very Velvet and Petit Very Velvet. The bow on X31 Small Package Wreath was stitched with four colors of Very Velvet.

This is my newest needlepoint project. I need something little, easy to carry around, and simple to finish! A little 3" round is the answer. A trip to my stash and the thread pull was a snap. I also had the Lee Bag Tag in another drawer. I always like to have the leather piece when I pull threads. That way I can match the thread and the leather. Vineyard Silk C-197 English Ivy is a perfect match!

I don't know what Polyamide and Viscose are, but I do know this is a great fuzzy thread with a little sparkle! It's very easy to use. I double it on #14 mesh to get a fluffier coverage. I used black Fuzzy Stuff on all my penguins.

I used both the White and Royal Blue Snow in the close-up picture of PS18 Summer Squares. It is a "very easy to stitch" metallic thread. Snow is strong and pliable. It does not unravel or shed. All the colors are multi dimensional. #14 mesh, one strand.
Basketweave Tent Stitch & Overdyed Threads can cause an unwanted "stripey" effect. The first time I used a green overdyed thread for a background hoping for a grass effect I got green stripes. Not what I wanted for my background. I couldn't understand what I did wrong. I knew nothing about working with overdyed threads and how to use them. That experience caused me to steer clear of overdyed threads for a long time. Since then, I have played around with overdyed threads and decorative stitches and now feel happy with those effects.
My daughter wanted a new needlepoint belt with tropical fish and blue stripes. I was planning on stitching it in basketweave tent stitch. After painting the belt I asked her to pick some threads. I had my pouch of Threadworx Overdyed Vineyard Silk threads on the table with lots of Vineyard Silk Classic stash. She picked 4 of the Threadworx Overdyed Vineyard Silk threads for the fish. I said, "oh, no pick something else this will stripe". Then I thought "stripey" colors would be perfect for tropical fish!! I couldn't have painted the fish stripes as well as they turned out using overdyed threads. Here's a case of the threads (not the paint brush) doing all the work!!

Needlepoint Specialty Threads will do the work for you! I used Rainbow Gallery's Water n' Ice for the window panes. Windows are a great place to use a specialty thread for a reflective look. I used Edmar Boucle for the flower vine next to the window. I am "French Knot" challenged. Boucle is the answer!! Hope you try a Needlepoint Specialty Threads to give your next canvas some punch.

More progress on the Needlepoint Wreath Mitten. The wreaths are the Criss Cross Hungarian Stitch. In my experience this is a hard stitch to learn. It is a really easy stitch to follow with the two color stitch steps painted on the canvas. I used two colors of green Caron Snow and 002L gold Kreinik Holographic Thread for the wreaths and three colors of red Rainbow Gallery Very Velvet for the bows.
I've made a little progress on the Needlepoint Wreath Mitten. This band is the Jacquard Stitch. I love the contrast between the Vineyard Merino and the Kreinik Holographic Thread.
I just added PS12 Painted Stitches Ribbon Sampler Stitch Guide to Barbara Bergsten Designs website. This canvas is a great class canvas. The stitches are set up easy to more difficult. The finished needlepoint becomes a great reference for decorative stitches and samples of overdyed threads.
