I have been thinking about this idea for a while. It finally came together. Many of you followed my Stitch Your Stash Workshop. I loved showing stitchers new stitches, but counting on a blank canvas seemed to be difficult at times. I want all needlepoint to be great experiences! I’m introducing my first Painted Stitches Sampler. It combines all the ideas of old fashion samplers.
A (needlework) sampler is a piece of embroidery produced as a demonstration or test of skill in needlework. It often includes the alphabet, figures, motifs, decorative borders and sometimes the name of the person who embroidered it and the date. From Wikipedia
The center is a saying and the borders are 14 blocks with stitch painted specialty stitches. Today I am going to pull threads and then I will go through the canvas step by step as I stitch it. Painted canvases available soon!
Very nice idea. Looks like lots of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing it stitched. Thanks.

The sampler looks great. A few years ago I painted the stitches on the dimensional animals for Chuckle Valley Friends, and found that it works really well for stitchers that are not crazy about counting but still want some texture on their projects. What is amazing is how the painted stitches form such interesting patterns - even just stitching these patterns in basketweave still looks good.
